The proposed deal between UCU and UUK on April the 18th stirred outrage amongst striking staff and students in support of the strike. The hashtag #NOCAPITULATION emerged to trend the feelings towards the deal as not going far enough. Protesters gathered outside the UCU headquarters and then marched down to the UUK main offices and back. The rejection of the deal marked a shift in the collective perception of UCU and how they should be further democratisaed. The rejection highlighted the snowballing of political demands during the strike period, in that it was not only a protest of the proposed deal but also a protest towards the power structures within the UCU.
